Bon Pied Bon Art, October 2020
Held during the last weekend of October, Bon Pied Bon Art is a cornerstone of the artistic community in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Rebecca opened the doors to her painting studio with the offering of an exhibition titled ‘Grand-mère, petite fille’ (Grandmother, granddaughter). Her work was displayed opposite a collection of work by her late grandmother, Vera Mackereth, who was also a watercolour painter and a great source of inspiration.
As well as discussions with visitors and live demonstrations of her painting process, Rebecca offered postcards and greeting cards for sale, featuring her most popular images. Despite the disruption caused by COVID-19, a great number of the town’s art enthusiasts were still keen to visit.
L’Ancien Manège, May 2020
Rebecca created her painting of L’Ancien Manège in response to a town competition. ‘Montrez-moi ton regard sur l’Ancien Manège’ (Show Me Your View of the Old Stables) called for artists’ interpretations of one of La Chaux-de-Fonds’ most architecturally striking historic buildings.
The space presented a unique challenge because of its vertical proportions, narrow floor plan and intricate painted details. A watercolour painting on A3 paper, the work won 3rd prize and was exhibited in situ, alongside the other winners. See the piece in full here.
